At Tiny Townhouse Daycare, we know how much fun summer brings—outdoor play, sunshine, and endless energy! But with rising temperatures, it’s more important than ever to keep our little ones properly hydrated. Dehydration can sneak up quickly, especially when kids are busy playing and may not realize they’re thirsty. Here are some tips to help keep your child hydrated and healthy all summer long:

1. Offer Water Frequently
Even if your child doesn’t ask for it, offer water regularly throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to offer water every 20–30 minutes during outdoor play.
2. Make It Fun
Use colorful cups or fun-shaped water bottles with straws to encourage more sipping. You can even let your child help pick out their own reusable water bottle to make it special.
3. Add Flavor Naturally
If your child is hesitant to drink plain water, try infusing it with fresh fruits like strawberries, oranges, or cucumbers. It adds a touch of flavor without any added sugar.
4. Serve Hydrating Foods
Water-rich fruits and veggies like watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, and grapes are great snacks that also help keep hydration levels up.
5. Watch for Signs of Dehydration
Be on the lookout for signs such as dry lips, dark-colored urine, tiredness, or fewer wet diapers. These can indicate your child needs more fluids.
6. Limit Sugary Drinks
While juice and sports drinks might be tempting, they often contain a lot of sugar and can actually lead to more dehydration. Water is always the best option!
7. Set the Example
Kids mimic what they see. Let them see you drinking water regularly this will help them understand the importance of staying hydrated, too.
